Meet Our Remarkable Rescues

These amazing dogs have overcome tough beginnings and are now looking for loving homes. Each one has a unique personality and story, and we know you’ll fall in love. Ready to change a life (or two)? Contact us today and give one of our rescues the GREYT LIFE  they deserve!

Mustang

    • Mustang was one of the most dramatic and rewarding rescues we've had in awhile.
    • A rural family that live 60 miles from Lubbock had spotted him in the field behind their home and were worried about him. They fed him and let him stay on their property. (He was so shy and skittish!) We were finally able to capture him inside their barn. Everyone was thrilled--because the arctic cold blast was on it's way and he would have died from cold exposure.
    • Over the months, the group and its energetic volunteers have allowed Mustang to take things at his own pace. He is getting braver every day.
    • He loves going on walks and is very secure and assertive.
    • Mustang is still not comfortable playing in the turnout yard. He seems to get nervous with all that open space. Generally, he just goes to the door and back to his safe place in the kennel pen instead of playing in the yard.
    • We believe Mustang is 2-years old. .
    • DNA results show him closely kin to Anna Suzanna--they are likely siblings. He shares many of the same personality traits and they definitely resemble one another.
    • If you are puzzled how this young and beautiful Lurcher was found out loose in a remote area--we believe he was left behind by a hunter. This was the same fate Anna Suzanna had suffered. Not all hunters are that cruel--but we think the person that has this pack of dogs certainly is.
    • We were so happy to rescue him and words cannot express how much gratitude we have for the family that was worried enough to ask us for help.

    Teddy

      • We are happy to let you know that the family that recently adopted Max have asked to foster Teddy to see if he might fit in well and get along with Max. If everything works out--they will adopt him. It will also give us the opportunity to see how Teddy will do in a home and learn more about him.
      • We will keep everyone posted!
      • Teddy was rescued at around 9-months old, and currently estimated at 2-years old and growing beautifully.
      • He is a Saluki/Greyhound mix and was left behind after a hunt.
      • He is very agile and athletic.
      • Teddy is good with other dogs, potentially cat-friendly with the right family.
      • He weighs about 55 pounds—a sleek, fast runner who loves chasing toys.
      • Teddy is still shy around new individuals--he's friendly to the dogs he meets!
      • We realize that his shyness has likely prevented him from getting adopted and we are hopeful that the right family comes along soon.
      • If you are interested in agility competitions--we think Teddy would do very well.
      • Ideal placement with another dog to keep him company--he needs a buddy!

      Shiner

        • SHINER HAS BEEN PRE-ADOPTED!!
        • DNA reveals equal parts Saluki, Greyhound, and Whippet—a real mix of strength and speed!
        • Has an old injury to his front leg, now managed successfully with monthly Librela injections. This injury is inoperable.
        • Active, affectionate, and pain-free—loves yard play and long walks.
        • Displays prey drive, so careful placement is necessary.
        • Estimated to be around 2 years old and full of life.
        • Gets along well with most dogs.
        • The group is happy to pay for his monthly Librela injection whenever he gets adopted.

        Guinness

          • Guinness was rescued during June and we did post one picture of what terrible shape he was in so you can appreciate how far he's come in the past 2 months.
          • When he was rescued in an area where there are vacant fields and two large apartment complexes--the young man that found him was so distraught because he was in terrible shape. Guinness's ears were infected from fly bites, he has been attacked by other dogs and had several wounds, his coat was partially shedding--very poor shape, he had not had good nutrition in quite some time, and he had a tick-borne illness. We were so worried!
          • But, Guinness is young, resilient, and a survivor. Look at him now!
          • He's had his neuter and is move-in ready.
          • Guinness is likely 2-years old. He may fill-out a bit--he's in that adolescent stage where they look "coltish". Greyhounds have achieved their full stature by this age--but they are still building muscles and their chests fill out.
          • He has a wonderful attitude. Sweet and loving! Just like his Dad--Max! The DNA showed a definite match. This means that Guinness's Mom was a full-blooded Greyhound. Isn't that interesting?
          • He's doing well on leash walks and getting along with all the other dogs while on walks.
          • Adopt Guinness--because you know what they say, "Guinness is good for you!"

          Jasper

            • Jasper was born in 2023, and he is the son of another rescue (Scottie).
            • He was rescued from Tulia's Animal Shelter—he’s full of love, energy, and charm.
            • He is friendly with other dogs and loves to play. Jasper is people-friendly, too. He was captured by the day care center trying to play with the children. So sweet...
            • Jasper might do well with cats--we are happy to test him!
            • He is crate trained, did well in foster care, and is great on walks.
            • Jasper would do well with an active family or individual with a yard and a big heart!

            Maxwell ("Max")

              • Cindy and her husband, Ron visited the rescue kennel and took several dogs on a "Test Drive"
              • They had trouble deciding but finally settled on Max!
              • Many happy days ahead--that's for sure!
              • Take a look at Guinness who is looking for a home--the DNA results revealed that Max is Guinness's Dad. WOW!!!

              Nutmeg

                •  Rescued by kind-hearted students and treated for a severe tick-borne infection.
                • Now recovered and thriving—strong, energetic, and loves affection!
                • She is 5-years old and 65 pounds—larger than most of our female Lurchers.
                • We are working diligently with Nutmeg to try and help her adjust to living the life of a pet and not one where her role is to hunt small prey.
                • Hunting prey is all she has known. We ran a DNA test that Embark offers to determine her age and discovered that her birthday is May 6, 2020.
                • This has given us lots of insight into her behavior on walks. We believe that her job was to lead the pack as they flushed out rabbits to chase. She was trying to do her job on our walks and did a splendid job of spotting rabbits. (As a side note--there has been a bounty of them this season.) The strong huntress would alert all of us that she had spotted a rabbit and start after it--but there was one problem--she was leashed up!
                • Progress report about Nutmeg (September 9). She has started to go on walks with the other dogs and is doing pretty well. I would probably give her a B+ Grade for the past week! She is still pulling pretty hard on the leash during the first few minutes of the walk. So, Baby Hold On!! But, she has started to relax and seemingly enjoying herself as the walk progresses. Watch for more updates about this stunning, loving, and funny Lurcher.
                • We are gradually taking her on very leisure walks. She has spotted some bunnies; but is less concerned.
                • Our next goal is to see how she does in a non-rural setting on walks.
                • We plan to do this when more volunteers can help out with the slow process of helping Nutmeg understand her new role in the world!
                • We are doing everything we can to help Nutmeg ready to thrive as a pet--we would welcome your help and guarantee that you will fall in love with her, too!
