Meet Our Remarkable Rescues

These amazing dogs have overcome tough beginnings and are now looking for loving homes. Each one has a unique personality and story, and we know you’ll fall in love. Ready to change a life (or two)? Contact us today and give one of our rescues the GREYT LIFE  they deserve!

Charlie

Charlie at the dog park in March.

Charlie is full of fun and love!

    • Charlie was in an animal shelter in Lovington, New Mexico after he was found running loose along a busy highway. We estimate that his birthday is April 1, 2025. He is a large Lurcher--over 70 pounds.
    • Charlie was fortunate enough to  live in foster care for several months. His foster family recently returned him to our rescue kennel because they had family obligations that required out-of-state travel for several months.
    • We are so grateful to help this sweet and beautiful Lurcher. His foster family deserves highest praise for their hard work helping Charlie find his way. He has had some hard times in his short life--but that's all in the past!
    • CHARLIE IS AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION. He passed all of his tests about living in a home--he can be crated for 2-3 hours, he is GREYT on the leash, has good manners at the dog park, sits quietly while the family is eating--no more table surfing(!), rides well in the car, and has pretty much mastered house-training.
    • His prey drive is still considerable--we do not plan to place him with small dogs or cats. He would love having a canine buddy to live with. Medium-sized dogs are fine. We do not place in homes that have "bully breeds".
    • He will need a home with a fenced yard. Charlie is energetic, young, and lots of fun!

    Zoe

      Zoe is growing up fast!

      • Ms. Zoe is growing up fast! She has outpaced her litter-mate, Sean. It has been fun to watch how much faster she has matured. Interesting, and true--just like in children--the females mature faster than the males.
      • Her spay went well. At this time, she is doing well on leash walks at the rescue kennel.
      • I cannot say for sure if she has a "prey drive". I think it bears watching to see if that develops as she gets exposed to new and different things in this big old world--miles away from the quiet and peaceful time she spent growing up on a ranch in rural Texas.
      • Zoe's unique breed findings are due to her Mom being a Greyhound and the sire was a Catahoula Leopard mix. Follow this link to learn more information about that breed.
      • Zoe is healthy--she did not have any blood-borne pathogens or infections. My plans include taking her on car-rides, visits to pet stores, and homes. We will try and set up some meetings with other dogs and cats. At only 18-months old--this little Lurcher has lots of love and life to give!

      Rachel

Rachel has lots of love to give!

        • Rachel was rescued in the ranch country along with Chip after they were abandoned in an isolated area. Thankfully, they were found by a very nice family that live and work nearby..
        • Our DNA tests are so helpful--not only do they show Lurcher's breed combination but also let us know who their relatives are.  We discovered that Rachel is Basil's sister and from the same litter. This information allowed us to confirm her age at 8-years old. (We rescued Basil at a younger age--and that made us feel more certain of his age. Basil lives in Lubbock and was adopted by one of our veterinarians--Dr. Kendra Sutherlin.)
        • Rachel is remarkable and resilient. She was treated for tick fever and is gaining weight. We will do x-ray studies since she was showing some weakness in her back right leg that is likely due to an old injury. Her limp is less pronounced as she is getting stronger/rebuilding her muscle.Degenerative Myelopathy was ruled-out with her DNA testing.
        • As you can see in her fun and cute pics from the rescue kennel--she is recovering very nicely and will have her spay in June.
        • Please consider adopting her--she will reward you with lots of love, joy,  and affection!

        Sean, Chip, and Tony

          Three Lurchers finding their way...

          • Sean, Tony, and Chip are all grouped together because each of them are still facing several challenges before they are adoptable.
          • Sean is healthy, he weighs about 75 pounds, and will turn 2-years old in December. He is Zoe's litter-mate. Sean is a very quirky Lurcher! We decided not to rush him and let him mature at his own pace. We are seeing improvement and progress. Sean enjoys attention, affection, and toys. He is not leash-trained and as soon as we get that task completed, we will set up his neuter and start the search for his perfect home. If you want a goofy, large, and funny fella--he's the one for you. We are optimistic and happy to be able to help him.
          • Chip was rescued from the ranching area northeast of Lubbock.  He was abandoned and traveling with Rachel--the picture is posted above. He was in terrible shape when we got him and was immediately hospitalized for dehydration, 3 types of GI parasites, tick fever, and a Heartworm infection. He's a strong boy to have survived his ordeal! One month after his rescue, we are happy to report that all of the health issues have resolved with the exception of treatment for Heartworm. We plan to follow the established guidelines for treatment. You can learn more about that at this link. Chip's age was also discerned from his DNA test that revealed that he is Phoebe's brother/littermate. Based on this information, he is 7-years old. He currently weighs 60 pounds.
          • Tony is another victim of abuse and neglect. He was running loose in Amarillo. (You can see him in the picture by the dumpster before he was captured.) Tony was held at their animal shelter and released to our group.  When we got him to our rescue kennel--we verified that he has impaired vision and a Heartworm infection. Despite all of these challenges, we know you would agree that Tony is a lovely and sweet Lurcher. He is 3-4 years old anduses his nose quite a bit compared to most Greyhounds We discovered that he loves to play with his hedgehog! He adapted quickly to his new home at the rescue kennel. Within two days, he had enough confidence and vision to run and play in the turn-out yard. He is easy to walk and stays close to your side. Tony is affectionate and loving. We are so happy to help him get a second chance at happiness and a good life.

Photo Gallery of Happiness--Class of 2025 graduates!

            • The rescue and adoption group is thrilled to share this album that includes all the dogs that  were rescued and successfully placed during 2025, and in the early months of 2026.
            • For a couple of weeks, there weren't any dogs at the rescue kennel. This is the first time this has happened in many years.
            • We used the time to recharge and renew our commitment to helping Lurchers in need. At the beginning of March--three new West Texas Lurchers arrived.
            • Help us as we welcome the newcomers and pay tribute to all the lucky Lurchers that moved into their new homes!
