Meet Our Remarkable Rescues

These amazing dogs have overcome tough beginnings and are now looking for loving homes. Each one has a unique personality and story, and we know you’ll fall in love. Ready to change a life (or two)? Contact us today and give one of our rescues the GREYT LIFE  they deserve!

Jack

    • Jack is a Greyhound puppy that was recently found in a perilous situation and abandoned by hunters in a desolate area near Silverton, TX
    • He was rescued by a caring person who worked in that area. It's hard to believe this beautiful and loving little guy was left to fend for himself. Our group was so happy to be in a position to help!
    • Jack's age is estimated at under one-year old. (We assigned him a birthday of April 1, 2025. His current weight is 45 pounds and he's growing fast!
    • He is eating ProPlan Sport 30/20. His coat is shiny and thick. He's running faster and faster every day in the turn-out yard.
    • Jack loves toys, he loves ear rubs, he loves snuggles, and he has a pretty good "play drive". He seems to enjoy the company of other dogs as well.
    • If you are considering adopting Jack, we believe he should have a home with a fenced yard. (This will give him more opportunities to play, take sunbaths, and it will be easier to house train him.) Crate training is highly recommended--it's a great management tool for all ages of dogs and especially for puppies.
    • We expect him to gain at least 20 more pounds over the next few months. He will also become taller--he currently measures 25-inches at his shoulder.
    • He is healthy! He has had 2 sets of shots including a Rabies vaccination. He is taking monthly heartworm preventative. Jack is micro-chipped.
    • His neuter will be done when he is older in order to allow him to grow and mature before that procedure is done.

    Teddy

      • Things didn't work out for Teddy to move into foster care. We were saddened, but it just wasn't good timing all around.
      • We are actively looking for a good home and family situation for Teddy.
      • He is a Saluki/Greyhound mix and was left behind after a hunt. He was entirely too young and too immature to be hunting at 9-months old!
      • He is very agile and athletic. He behaves well on leash walks.
      • Teddy is good with other dogs, potentially cat-friendly with the right family. He was well behaved around a small terrier mix over several meet and greet sessions.
      • He weighs about 55 pounds—a sleek, fast runner who loves chasing toys. His age is estimated at two-years old. We believe he was born during June, 2023.
      • Teddy is still shy around new individuals--he's friendly to the dogs he meets!
      • We realize that his shyness has likely prevented him from getting adopted and we are hopeful that the right family comes along soon.
      • If you are interested in agility competitions--we think Teddy would do very well.
      • Ideal placement with another dog to keep him company--he needs a buddy!

      Charlie

        • Charlie was in an animal shelter in Lovington, New Mexico after he was found running loose along a busy highway.
        • Charlie is under one-year old. We hope to give you a better idea of his age after he sees our regular veterinarian.
        • His DNA test to determine his breed(s) is still pending-he has sight-hound traits and it will be interesting to see how it turns out.
        • In the meantime, Charlie is getting lots of attention and care.
        • He really enjoys snuggling!
        • His wiry and long coat makes him especially striking.
        • Stay turned as we learn more about Charlie in the coming weeks. We hope to find him a home sometime during December.

        Jax

        Jax and Teddy

          • JAX GOT ADOPTED!!
          • Jax is a  young Lurcher that was recently rescued from an animal shelter located 100 miles north of Lubbock.
          • At the time of his rescue, he was in bad shape and we believe he was left behind while on a hunt. He is being treated for intestinal parasites and is underweight at only 54 pounds. As soon as he gets his neuter and dental done--he can be adopted.
          • He quickly adapted to taking leash walks and playing in the yard with the other dogs.
          • We believe he is only about 2-years old.
          • Stay tuned as we learn more about Jax!

DNA Test Results for Lurchers adopted during 2025

            • The rescue and adoption group started doing DNA testing many years ago to learn more about the dogs that were being rescued and were bred to hunt . It was obvious from their appearances that they were not 100% Greyhound. And we wanted to know more about them.
            • Most of the West Texas Lurchers are a combination of Greyhounds and Saluki.
            • From what we understand, the Saluki portion of their DNA should add stamina for longer runs and that's why that combination was chosen.
            • The West Texas Lurchers aren't really fitting into the category of Lurchers found elsewhere--the West Texas variety has a predominance of Sight-hounds in their heritage whereas in other areas, there may be terriers or scent-hounds. In the midwest, they  are adding breeds to make the dogs stronger swimmers.
            • The DNA tests also list the dog's relatives. We discovered that Max is Guinness's Dad (Nico is his new name!), and Scotty (adopted in 2024) is Jasper's Dad.
            • Females and any male dog facing more involved surgery are tested for a gene that causes delayed post-operative bleeding. If the dog has this issue--they will receive a medication before surgery that will prevent this serious issue. For more information about DEPOHGEN testing follow this link.
            • Bogart was the only dog APFUGR rescued that wasn't a sight-hound. We wondered if he was a Greyhound puppy. He wasn't but he was in a high-kill shelter and starved. It would've been hard to leave him there...Bogart is quite a character and has a zest for life! nnn
